Sara takes the advice of a friend and applies to serve as a nurse overseas. She travels by ship to Cairo, befriending a British girl of Italian origin who is travelling out to interview Italian prisoners-of-war.
Sara works at the British General Hospital, Helmieh, 15 kilometres from Cairo. In her leisure time she sometimes accepts invitations from British officers to dine at the top Cairo hotels.
She is head-hunted by the S.A.S. to be the medical orderly for an attack upon an Italian airfield, where she has to deal with serious injuries.
Sara's innocence in sexual matters is overcome (with her friend Gina's help) when she is attracted to a cultured Egyptian lawyer.
She is again head-hunted, this time to serve on a Regimental Aid Post at the major battle of Alamein. Amongst the participants is her cousin Johnny, who is a member of a tank crew.”
