French West Africa has not been kind to Gavin Briggs. Forced into the life of a smuggler and scoundrel, he has accumulated debt with the wrong people and now has one last chance to make it right. With the help of his two associates, Tamsir and Baobacar Diagne, the trio has one last chance to smuggle contraband out of Dakar and make a profit for David, a big-time crime boss in Dakar and the man they owe.
But when a British invasion armada arrives on the horizon as they prepare their boat to depart, things immediately go from bad to worse. Intercepted as they try to escape, the British commandeer their contraband and toss the three smugglers in the brig. With no way to repay David, all seems lost for Gavin until redemption arrives in the shape of a shadowy figure named Frederick Atkinson of the British spy service.
As Atkinson stares down the three imprisoned smugglers, he sees an opportunity in the three men. A nation’s treasure, worth billions, has been hidden in the dusty badlands of the Sahara. A treasure of gold bullion that was stolen and hidden away when the Nazis invaded France. A treasure that whosoever controls could tip the balance between the Axis and Allied forces. In Gavin Briggs and the Diagne brothers, Atkinson sees three expendable assets that can help him find the treasure. His offer is simple: find the gold and be rescued from the wrath of David.
Seeing an opportunity at salvation and the possibility of earning a profit, Gavin and the two brothers agree to help, but immediately encounter trouble. As the search for the gold begins, they realize they are not the only ones scouring the desert. As the British have their hunters, so too do the Nazis.
A race against time begins, as Gavin and the Diagne brothers are forced into a world of spies, subterfuge, and violence. As powerful forces jockey for the gold, the three smugglers are forced into a scavenger hunt that leads across the desert and through the barren Sahels of the Sahara to find where the Vichy Treasury has been hidden.”
