Christ on a Bike! by D.J. Doyle is the story of an exorcism by a priest who finds that demons can be found everywhere and some of them cannot be exorcised. Father Jack is not your usual priest; he is crass, he smokes, he drinks and he is not afraid to say a bad word or two to make himself feel better. He might not be an ordinary priest, but he is pretty darn good at what he does. So when he and his team of priests embark on an exorcism, he finds that this particular demonic spirit is not going to make it easy for him. Soon, he realizes that this demon is bringing up a lot of things that he would rather stay buried deep. What is he going to do now? Can he exorcise this demon while making sure his personal demons stay buried?
Dark humor at its best, Christ on a Bike! is a short yet very powerful story that will smack you in the face and hold you down until you finish it. This is horror fiction, yet it goes beyond the genre. I enjoyed Father Jack’s reactions; he is smart and feisty, he is not afraid to speak his mind and he is ready to take charge of the situation. The actual story is incredible, the author makes sure to grab your attention so that you don’t go anywhere. Jack is a very complicated character and I am amazed at how the author was able to convey his story and make you feel for him in such a limited number of pages. Kudos to D.J. Doyle for writing an incredible, very entertaining story!
