“Book Descriptions: With the exception of Mirabella Plunkett in the 1800s, the idea of merfolk and wizarding kind mingling together was unheard of, and otherwise, considered to be taboo. Up until she the age of ten, Nixie Dover believes she is nothing more than a regular witch living with her father, Henry. Never one to really question her mother's absence during childhood, Nixie takes her father's excuses as truth until the opportunity arises for her to meet her mother, Meri, at last. It is then that Nixie discovers her mother is not just a traveller of sorts as her father made it out to be, but, in fact, a mermaid.
To add to the chaos of having her entire world flipped upside down, Nixie receives her letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry shortly after learning the truth of her lineage. Her only hope is to remain focused on her studies and blend in as much as possible among the other students. However, her years at Hogwarts are destined to be far from quiet as she finds it incredibly difficult to go through with her plan. It doesn't help that she becomes involved with a boy by the name of Sirius Black and trouble seems to follow him like a shadow.
Sirius seems to warm up to Nixie surprisingly fast, but their relationship continues to swim in cold waters as it takes Nixie quite a while to warm up to any other idea outside of dragging Sirius to the bottom of the Black Lake.
